The FDA has recently approved a name change for the medication Kapidex. The name change was approved to avoid confusion with two other medications, Casodex® and Kadian®. These three medications all have very different uses: Kapidex is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to decrease acid in the stomach; Casodex is used to treat advanced prostate cancer; and Kadian is an opioid analgesic used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Beginning in late April 2010, Takeda Pharmaceuticals will market Kapidex under its new name, DexilantTM. There will be no changes made to Kapidex other than its name, and a new NDC number will be issued to Dexilant. Individuals who have questions regarding the name change may contact Takeda Pharmaceuticals at 877.TAKEDA.7.
