Eli Lilly and Company has announced a formulation change for their product Cymbalta® 60mg capsules. These capsules are formulated to contain pellets of active ingredient. The change is that the concentration of each pellet is increasing from 20% to 32%. Because each pellet will contain more active agent, there will be fewer pellets incased in each capsule, potentially making the capsule appear less full. The size, coloring and packaging of the capsules, as well as the excipients used in addition to the active ingredient, will remain the same. These newly formulated capsules will provide the same level of active drug in the body and will have equal efficacy to the previous formulation. While the NDC numbers of the Cymbalta® 60mg capsules will change to reflect this change in formulation, there is no need for a new prescription. Other strength doses of Cymbalta® will remain the same. Cymbalta® is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults as well as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, and fibromyalgia.
